It’s technically a jersey but, also, feels and look like a sweater or sweatshirt. Would describe the garment as heavier than summer but lighter than winter, or, medium weight. Front and rear pocket(s). From the inside patch: Haling from Italy’s devoutly Catholic south, Gino Bartali’s first Giro win, in 1936, was marred by tragedy. His brother, Giulio, was killed shortly afterwards but he came back to win the following year. Despite securing a third Maglia Rosa in 1946, the foreign press scoffed:’Gino the Pious’ could only produce his best form on Italian roads. But Bartall’s knowledge of those famillar contours hid a secret. During the war, he rode the hills around his home in bright jerseys that made him deliberately conspicuous. “There goes Gino, ” locals would sa as he pedalled past the occupying Nazis, a dem/-god on wheels, utterly untouchable. Only years later did it come to light that beneath those jerseys he carried messages for the Italian Resistance. And then, in 2010, the revelation that Bartali had also hidden a Jewish family in his cellar. Had they been discovered, all the pink jerseys in the world wouldn’t have saved him.
